YES on 2G means dedicated and accountable funding for:

Sidewalks and safer streets

Accelerating Lakewood's missing sidewalk projects, expanding bike lanes, and slowing traffic for safer residential streets

Homelessness outreach and real solutions

Expanding street outreach that connects Lakewood's most vulnerable residents to services and support

Crime prevention and safer public spaces

Mental health crisis support, programs that help youth stay on track, and better lighting in public spaces and along business corridors

200 yearsto finish Lakewood's missing sidewalks at current funding

Building one mile of sidewalk costs between $1.6 and $3.2 million. 2G speeds that up, so families are not waiting generations for a safe way to walk to school, a bus stop, or the store.

Common questions about Issue 2G

What is Lakewood Ballot Issue 2G?

Ballot Issue 2G is a City of Lakewood measure on the November 3, 2026 ballot. It asks voters to approve a 0.5% sales and use tax increase, raising Lakewood's rate from 3% to 3.5%, with the revenue restricted to specific uses.

What does 2G fund?

The revenue is restricted to specific spending categories including addressing homelessness, sidewalks, bike lanes, traffic safety, and crime prevention. That includes road improvements designed to slow and calm traffic in residential areas.

How much money will 2G raise?

It is estimated that it will raise up to $17.6 million in the first full year, beginning January 1, 2027.

Are grocery prices affected by 2G?

No. Groceries are generally exempt from the additional half percent. Fruit, vegetables, bread, cereal, dairy, meat, and canned and frozen foods are not subject to a Lakewood sales tax and that will continue to be the case with 2G.

How does Lakewood's sales tax rate compare to its neighbors?

Lakewood has not raised its sales tax rate in 20 years. Currently Lakewood has one of the lowest sales tax rates among its peer cities, and after the increase it will still be below average.

Can the city later use the 2G money on different things?

No. The ballot language restricts the revenue to the purposes stated in the ballot language. Revenue goes into a dedicated fund subject to annual external audits.
